Behind the Big Top

Over the weekend, I went home and had the opportunity to shoot Under the Big Top put on by Lutheran High School North. This whole project was new for me. I’ve shot video before, but it was never for a journalism assignment. I learned I actually enjoy it more then I thought I would and that I need to work on my interviewing skills!

Here is the video:

Lutheran High School North has done ten consecutive musicals in a row, until this spring that is. “One day Mr. Reincke (the principal) came to me and asked if I could finish a show that had already been started. They were afraid they weren’t going to be ready for opening time so I stepped in in the middle and that was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella in February of 2011.” says Cheryl Marie Freeman, director of the theatre department at Lutheran High School North. “This is the first straight show I have ever directed, and I did enjoy it. It’s got some comedy in there thanks to our fabulous clowns!”

Under the Big Top follows the story of the Marlow Little Big Top Circus. Not only is the bank about to foreclose on the circus, but the lion tamer is afraid of lions, the magician is claustrophobic, the trapeze artists are afraid of heights, and someone stole all of the money the circus was going to use to pay the loan back.

Under the Big Top is being shown Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 at 7 pm in Lutheran High School North’s Auxiliary Gym near the north parking lot. General Admission is $10 at the door.
